Superfrugality Month 2013: Week Two

Our second weekend of Superfrugality Month was...a little less successful than the first.  We didn’t eat out (success!) but we did do a few things that cost money.

On Saturday morning we bundled up really well and headed to the north side of Pittsburgh to go hiking in a park that we’d never been to before.  If you want to have the trails all to yourself, go hiking in the dead of winter.  Not even kidding, we only saw one other person the entire 3 hours we were out there.  Which is probably a good thing because we definitely saved ourselves some embarrassment.  Because it had just snowed, the trails weren’t very easy to see and some were not obviously marked.  This means we lost the trail entirely at some point and spent at least 30 minutes scaling and slipping and sliding around on a very steep, very snowy, very overgrown mountainside and saying things like “Is that the trail? Is this the trail?” until we finally spotted it again.

That evening a friend had invited us to a group dinner and then outing for his birthday.  We didn’t join them for dinner (at a restaurant that turned out to be expensive and not very good--glad we sidestepped that one) but we did go to the “club” they had chosen for an after-dinner activity.  The club was terrible and pretentious and they charged a cover (where do they think they are, New York City?) but it was still a minimally expensive night and a fun excuse to get dressed up and hang out with friends.

Sunday we ran errands and got a long training run in...and then went and had a coffee date at a local favorite spot.  It was so nice to get away from the apartment and spend some time just sitting and talking with each other, even if it did mean we cheated and bought coffee out.  Then I drove home and managed to successfully parallel park a car with a manual transmission on my very first try (which has nothing to do with being frugal but which I still consider quite an accomplishment) so all in all it was a great Sunday.

Here’s week one.

Good job on the parallel parking. I can barely parallel park an automatic or just operate a manual car anymore - it's a skill you lose if you don't do it often, I think.

Club = Matrix?
ahahhahahahahahahahhaa
I think they have Thursday night student specials, for when Sergio feels like partying it up on a school night ;)

I think you guys did really great! That is annoying about having to pay a cover charge - I hate doing that!

I haven't really been as frugal as you guys are being, but I feel like I have really stepped back since the beginning of the year and it feels really good to spend less! Although I think I am due for a little shopping as I need some new spring things for my upcoming move!

Lisa thinks it's annoying the club charged a cover charge. I think it's annoying when friends choose such places to celebrate their birthdays. ha. All in all, sounds like you still did pretty well last week.
