This morning at 9am, D and his cohort will start one of the most important exams of their entire life. In order to advance to the next year of PhD candidacy, they must pass a 2-day qualifying examination that tests them on all major components of Physics. The four guys pictured above (D is the one in glasses sitting on the table) have been studying together all summer, giving lectures to each other on various subjects within Physics, working practice problems, and taking old examinations in preparation for this test. They've given up time with their loved ones and beautiful summer weather to tough it out in front of a blackboard and some frighteningly large textbooks, and it all comes down to the next two days. So if you could, in the next few hours and again tomorrow, send all your best wishes, thoughts, and prayers in the direction of Pittsburgh, we would really appreciate it.

Sending all my best thoughts to Pittsburgh! Good luck to D!
Best of luck!! How nerve wracking! I hope the first day went well. That is tough that they had to give up their summer to prepare for this... I am sure he did great, but I know he (and you) won't rest easy until you see the results!
Good luck D! I wish him the best. I hope that the results are speedy!
Ohhhh I'm sure they all did awesome! I'll keep my fingers crossed though until you find out!
