We leave for Nicaragua in one month, which seems so close and yet still so far off. I'm coping by reminiscing about Puerto Rico.
It's been a hard school year. D's program is really demanding. He's risen to the challenge, and coped with the stress and workload much better than I have.
We promised ourselves we'd take a big, fun trip once it was over. Two weeks and counting until school is officially out for summer. Two weeks after that, Nicaragua!
Summer brings its own set of challenges, including a scary qualifying exam in August that determines if students are ready for the second year of schoolwork and research. I know D's up for it. I'm just not sure that I am.
Luckily, we don't have to deal with that until after we get back. Until then, I'm taking it one day at a time.

Don't you think spouses, partners and life supporters of PhD students should also be required to take a test to see if they're mentally ready for their mate to move to the next level. And if not, you should be provided resources to help you cope? I think it's only fair, given how much your life changes, too, when he pursues a higher degree!
Ha. I LOVE Nilsa's comment. SO TRUE! My boyfriend decided to go back to school and it is WAY harder on me than on him. :)
That trip is going to be a lot of fun. I love central America, and have heard great things about Nicaragua.
I agree with Nilsa's comment. My MBA program was nothing like D is doing, but I still thought the spouses earned an honorary degree. Especially my classmates that had kids as their spouses REALLY carried the load while they were in school.
I am glad you had a fun trip to look forward to. And from what you've said about D, I know he'll pass that test with flying colors!
