Wine:
-I've said it before but I'll say it again: moving sucks. Packing up all your stuff, living in chaos, not knowing where anything is, all of it is rough. For a type-A organized personality like mine it's especially hard as I crave routine and oranization.
-Moving is also expensive. It always takes more time and definitely more money than you thought it would, and this move is no different. Good thing I got a vacation payout when I left my job!
-I got all kinds of banged up when we were packing, loading, and unloading the trailer. D and I had to move a couch by ourselves, which I really didn't think I could do (I have close to zero upper body strength). I also hurt my knee, although I'm not sure how, and it's swollen and tight. Looks like I won't be running for a few days until it can heal.
-Adjusting is hard. I keep thinking that I'm just on vacation in Pittsburgh and we're going to go back to Chicago (and our apartment there) in a few days.
Love:
-The drive went off without a hitch! We packed up the moving truck and then attached D's car to the back to tow it to Pittsburgh and it worked like a charm. We didn't run into anything, lose the car down the freeway, or have anything break or get lost/stolen. Phew. Also, because of a U-Haul error with the trailer/truck pickup (long story) we received a $50 refund for our troubles.
-The new apartment was clean when we arrived, and it is not quite as small as I remembered. The kitchen is bigger and nicer than I thought it was, and we're working on some closet and storage solutions as I type.
-My boyfriend is the strongest, handiest man on earth. He can lift anything, assemble anything, and fix anything. It really is quite astounding. He's also putting his engineering prowess to good work and making a few things for the apartment from lumber we got at Home Depot. We even bought stain so that we (he) can refinish all our furniture to match.
-We met our upstairs neighbor already and she's super nice! She also moved here for grad school and has a few friends in the area so hopefully we can hang out and meet some fun new people. I now know two people in Pittsburgh: D and our neighbor. Let's hope that list gets longer soon!
