It’s Thursday, which means it’s time for Wine and Love! Thanks to Nora for hosting.
Things that have me reaching for the bottle of wine:
I complained about this last week but it still hasn’t gotten any better so I’m at it again. The weather in Pittsburgh is putting a serious damper on my mood. Pretty much every day is grey and rainy, or grey and cold, or all three. I feel like I haven’t seen the sun in years. I hear it’s like this pretty much until May. SUPER.
This time of year is so busy and I feel like it’s passing me by! I haven’t had time to do much in the way of Christmas-y things and I’m worried the whole season will just pass by in a blur. Maybe once D is done with finals on Dec. 16 we’ll have time to do some fun holiday things together before we leave on the 21st to go to our respective homes for Christmas.
D and I aren’t spending Christmas together. For the third year in a row I’ll be in my hometown, he’ll be in his. I’m going to miss him so much and I don’t think I can make it! At least not without a little sniffling and whining. Next year I’m determined to spend at least part of the holiday with him.
Things that I’m loving:
I have officially finished ALL my Christmas shopping. I’m very excited to give everyone their presents this year because I put a lot of thought into them and I think they’ll be a big hit.
I think physical therapy is actually working. I’ve definitely seen improvement in my hamstring, and I’m feeling much stronger these days. My physical therapist says I seemed to have “turned a corner.” Music to my ears! Relatedly, running has been going really well despite the fact that I’ve had to do most of it on the treadmill. I don’t totally hate the treadmill. I’m still very excited to get to run outside in Austin over Christmas though.
This might be a totally silly thing to get excited about but D and I have been so good about sticking to meal planning and eating everything in the fridge lately. We sometimes get off track and order out if he has a big test or assignment due the next day and doesn’t have time to make dinner (I don’t cook). After going over budget for eating out in November, we’re making more of a conscious choice to plan out the meals for the week and then actually eat them. We also stocked up on some easy suppers from Trader Joe’s. That place is magical.
I mentioned this yesterday but my student loan is paid OFF. I am officially debt free (for now) and it feels so good.
I have a really fun weekend planned. I’ll tell you all about it on Monday!

I spent one miserable winter in Milwaukee, so I am praying for you to get thru it in Pittsburgh. I used to go to a tanning salon just to try to trick my brain into thinking I was getting some sunlight lol
And bummer on not spending the holidays with the hunny. We will be here for you to snivel and whine to lol
Happy Thursday!
Pittsburgh winters are cold and gray ... and what do you think Chicago winters are? Seems to me that Pittsburgh might start a wee bit earlier (in November/December rather than December/January), but also ends earlier, too (it's not nice in Chicago until June - you know that's the truth). Just saying... =)
It's gray here alot from Dec-Mar, so I can relate.... It's tough to go so long without sunlight!
That is tough to spend holidays apart. :( HOpefully you can figure out a way to spend part of it together next year!
And once again, congrats on having your student loans paid off. I am way way impressed and inspired by you!
