Well the south side of Chicago

Do you guys know that song called Bad, Bad Leroy Brown? It starts out:

Well the south side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a man named Leroy Brown

Now I don't know anyone named Leroy but I do know that the south side of Chicago is not a great part of town. Last week my boss and I were looking at a list of the 20 worst neighborhoods in America. 4 of them were on the south side of Chicago and one was three blocks from our office building. Good times.

So I'm back from Texas. This weekend was just what I needed. I got to see my friends and family and relax for the first time in a long time. I hadn't been back to Texas since January and six months is about as long as I can go without margaritas, queso, and friends and family. I got in late Friday night so my dad picked me up from the airport and we headed straight home to go to sleep. On Saturday I got up and had breakfast with the fam and then went and got my hair cut for the first time since December. Maybe other people couldn't really tell but friends, my hair was looking nasty. Then my mom and I got lunch together at Subway and the guy working behind the counter was someone who had once dumped me in high school. Heh. I mean sure, I don't even have a job but I don't think Subway is my next stop (fingers crossed). Then I went to Austin to go swimming with friends. We floated around for a while before we called it quits in favor of mexican food and margaritas from Vivo. Two pitchers of margaritas later the sober ones drove me and Amy to her house and we showered and passed out for a while. Then we got dinner, headed to another bar, and ended the night at Dolce Vita, a great coffee shop in my old neighborhood, Hyde Park The Awesome (not to be confused with my current neighborhood, Hyde Park The Terrible). God I miss that neighborhood. It was such a great place to live. Then on Sunday I had breakfast with some old work friends at Kerbey Lane Cafe, which is my favorite restaurant in the entire world. Then I went to New Braunfels with my dad to run errands and we had a great time in the car singing along to the oldies playlist on my ipod. My dad is the best. Sunday night was a party for my graduation (mainly with my parents friends) and my best friend from high school and her husband surprised me by showing up with her parents. It was so much fun to see her and get to catch up. We've grown apart a bit in the last couple years but she has been such a good friend to me since ummm SEVENTH GRADE that any chance to get together and gossip is always welcome. Monday was a whole entire day of dentist appointments. First up was a cleaning, which I love, but then they told me I had to have gum surgery, which I do not love. Then was the oral surgeon, who I love, and he told me everything looked good, which I loved. Then was the dentist, who I do not love, and he told me I have FOUR CAVITIES. NO LOVE. (and can I just interject here to say that I take REALLY GOOD CARE of my teeth. I'm talking floss every day, brush after almost every meal, rinse with mouthwash every time, GOOD CARE OF THESE TEETH. And thousands of dollars of orthodontia and oral surgery later, cavities. Hate). Then I went to the orthodontist, who said everything looked good. Two out of four ain't bad I guess. Now if someone would just hire me, give me benefits INCLUDING DENTAL, and pay me something more than a pittance I could get these teeth all nice and fixed up. It is never fucking ending, it seems, with my expensive expensive teeth. Sigh. Ok, sorry, tangent over. Monday night my parents and I went to one of my favorite Mexican food restaurants and had margaritas and fajitas and it was perfect. Then we went home and watched tv, went to bed early, got up and headed to the airport at 4:30 this morning and now I'm back in Chicago. It was too short. I miss Austin terribly. Pictures to come.
