Denial Isn't Just a River in Egypt
I'm not moving. No way is this grad school thing actually happening. No way is this my third to last day at work. No way am I leaving Austin and moving all the way across the country to Chicago. All of this disbelief stuff makes it hard to pack so basically, I am very far behind. I have packed three boxes, only books, only the ones I'm taking with me. This ris=packing failure. Last night, in lieu of packing, I tried on a bunch of clothes and weeded out stuff that needed to go to Goodwill. Lots and lots of stuff needed to go. I kept saying "I've had this since college! I got this in high school!" The boy just shook his head and smiled. Smart boy. The triumph of the night was when I tried on the dress I wore to homecoming my senior year of high school AND IT STILL FIT. That is way more satisfying than packing.
