First Day of School

Today is the first day of school for many many kids/grownups across the nation. Sadly, I am not one of them. I am at regular work, not the first day of anything, except for the first and more importantly LAST day I ever wear this remarkably uncomfortable skirt. Last night at HEB I nearly walked straight into the school supplies bin at the front of the store and then even more nearly burst into tears at the sight of the Mead 5-Star 5-Subject notebooks. Those suckers were my trademark in college, I had them color-coded to my classes. The colors I like most (red and blue) went with the classes I liked most (English and Not Science), and the colors that I don't really like that much (grey, black) went with the classes that I didn't really like that much (Science and other stupid requirements like...shudder...Math). I almost bought some to...carry around empty as a constant reminder that I was not learning anything new? Nah, and where would I put them, with my moving every 6 months practice and all. School supplies purchases will have to wait another year.
With this new promotion people keep asking me if this means grad school is no longer the plan. Uh, as if! This is just more means to bring me a little bit closer to being able to fund my education habit, that's all. So I'm going to keep studying, and writing, and compiling application materials, and throwing away money on fees, and hopefully in a year's time I will be starting school, and buying new Mead 5-star 5-Subject notebooks after all. When I'm in grad school though, I won't be required to take any more stupid math or science classes and I think that next year's purchase will only be color-coded with red and RED for love it and LOVE IT MORE. I can hardly wait.
